Police rock up to barbecue

12/11/2008 9:26:00 AM
POLICE had the city campus of Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE rocking yesterday.

Police band, Code One, which aims to improve relationships between youth and police, entertained more than 50 students at a barbecue lunch.

The barbecue was provided by The Country Awareness Network, which raises awareness, education and support to Victorian rural and regional communities about sexually transmitted diseases.

CAN was promoting safe sex and AIDS awareness week, which starts on November 30.

Organiser Tom Mulvaney said the day was more successful than he had anticipated.

“We met lots of objectives and it was a great day,’’ he said.

Mr Mulvaney said it was important for young people to see police in a more positive light, as people who have fun.

The BRIT youth programs team provided a free bus shuttle to collect students from the Charleston Road Campus.
