 Mini tornado rips through home

Mini tornado rips through home

13/11/2008 8:47:00 AM
A STRATHFIELDSAYE couple was cleaning up yesterday after a mini tornado tore tiles from the roof of their home during a violent wind storm.

State Emergency Service volunteers were called to Tony and Gwenda Woods’ house after tiles were flung into the front yard of the couple’s Orchard Drive home and on to the street, at about 2.45pm.

The Woods were quietly relaxing inside when they heard an almighty roar.

“I was in the air force and I thought a plane had flown through our house,’’ Mr Woods said.

About four square metres of concrete tiles were lifted and smashed on both sides of the gable roof.

Fibreglass panels from a back verandah were sent skyward and a green house in the back yard flattened during the storm.

Mr Woods said amazingly there was no damage to any other properties in the street.

Neighbour Ian Slee, who lives 200 metres away, said he heard the roar and went outside, but could see no damage to his home.
