 Gully charm works a treat

Gully charm works a treat

6/11/2008 8:44:00 AM
AN exhibition highlighting the beauty of the Long Gully area and the talents of its residents is on display at Dudley House.

More than 50 paintings by community members have been collected to promote the area’s charms in the Gully Gallery Exhibition.

“We wanted to promote the artists and creative talent that we knew was in Long Gully and that is often not seen in the broader community,’’ organising committee member Dave Fagg said.

“There’s people who do photography, people who paint, people who do stencil arts, the list goes on’’.

He said he was overwhelmed with the response from the community.

“People have produced art about the actual place, the people, the landscape - for example Victoria Hill,’’ he said.

“There are some entries here that would be welcome in any art gallery.’’

Ten artworks have been selected and made into a gift card, the profits from which will go back to community projects in Long Gully.

Mr Fagg said the level of interest from the wider Bendigo community could have been better.

“It’s actually been a bit disappointing in the first few days,’’ he said.

“We encourage everybody to come down have a look.’’

The Gully Gallery exhibition is on display from 10am to 4pm until Sunday.

Cards may still be purchased after Sunday by phoning 0421 764 699 or at seedsbendigo@optusnet.com.au.
