Crews use fire to fight fire

29/10/2008 9:14:00 AM
FUEL reduction burns continued across the region yesterday as crews worked to eradicate fire fuel before the fire danger period begins in less than two weeks. Officers worked in James Street, Eaglehawk, yesterday.

The burns are designed to protect the area from fires in the years to come.

Yesterday’s burn involved 8.1 hectares of box ironbark forest west of Eaglehawk. Department of Sustainability and Environment and Parks Victoria fire crews managed the site, and firefighters will patrol the area on the lookout for hotspots today.

For information about planned burns, fire restrictions and campfires, phone the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.
