YMCA mourns popular mum

STAFF at the YMCA Eaglehawk Playhouse Childcare Centre are mourning the loss of Gaye Buzolich, the mother-of-five who tragically died in a single-car crash north of Bendigo early on Sunday morning.Ms Buzolich, 47, known as Tess, was employed at the Playhouse for more than two years.She was yesterday described by YMCA management and fellow workers as very popular, energetic and caring.Ms Buzolich was killed when the late model Hyundai Lantra she was driving slammed into a tree at the corner of Gees and Booth roads, just metres from her home in Woodvale.Police have called for witnesses and information to help them piece together the events leading up to the fatality, believed to have occurred between 4am and 8am.A 29-year-old male passenger who suffered head injuries is in the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition.Bendigo Regional YMCA CEO Rod Wee Hee said Playhouse staff, families and friends were devastated and had rallied to support and care for one another.“We extend our deepest sympathy to Tess’s mother and family and best wishes for the recovery of the young man injured in the accident,’’ he said.A special reflection was held at the YMCA board meeting last night in honour of Ms Buzolich.Her parents, Joan and Denis Kirby, who live in Melbourne, were still coming to terms last night with the loss of their only daughter.“She was so very loving and beautiful,’’ Mrs Kirby said.“We were very close. She was my best friend.’’Ms Buzolich leaves behind her five children and two grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
