Work gives dam fine view

05 May, 2010 04:00 AM
A PUBLIC viewing platform has been built at Lauriston Reservoir as part of a $580,000 upgrade of access at Coliban Water storages.

General manager of operations Neville Pearce said the work included seating and fencing on the downstream side of the reservoir embankment. Lauriston Reservoir is popular for picnics, barbecues and fishing, as well as general sight-seeing.

“This new platform will provide a safe place to enjoy the views the reservoir has to offer,” he said. Work has been done at several reservoirs to ensure they meet occupational health and safety standards.

Access for staff at Lauriston and Malmsbury reservoirs, and the McCay holding basin east of Castlemaine was improved. The work included replacing ladders, platforms and handrails to meet safety standards.

The project is part of Coliban Water’s $214 million capital works program outlined in its five-year water plan.
