A wildfire has burnt out more than 150 hectares of farmland near Corop, west of Elmore.About 50 fire trucks and three aircraft were called to contain the fire just after 2pm yesterday. The CFA is still investigating the cause of the fire but it is reported to have started near a power line which was under maintenance.CFA operations officer Trent McKinnon said it took 27 CFA crews and a similar number of DSE vehicles two hours to control the wildfire. Two planes and a helicopter were also used to firebomb the blaze, and firefighters remained on the scene well into last night putting out hotspots. Mr McKinnon said the fire burnt out 159.2 hectares of farmland and treed gullies near Chiswell and Rochester-Heathcote roads. One farmhouse was given an evacuation order but crews never allowed it to be under threat.Fire crews also protected nearby vineyards.Mr McKinnon said it was the region’s “most significant” fire of the season so far and showed how quickly a wildfire could spread.“Today wasn’t rated as a real high day of fire danger, but there was a bit of wind around which made this fire quite considerable in size,” he said.
