 Wet weekend for Bendigo

Wet weekend for Bendigo

09 Feb, 2012 11:47 AM
A DROP in temperature and thunderstorms is in store for Bendigo over the weekend.

Tomorrow will be partly cloudy with a shower or two and a chance of thunderstorms and the temperature will drop to a cool 23 degrees.

Saturday will be even cooler at 21 degrees with a few showers from late morning and a chance of thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.

While the temperature will rise to 24 degrees on Sunday, the showers will continue with a possible thunderstorm developing in the evening.

The Bureau of Meteorology's Richard Carlyon said the thunderstorms were a result of humidity moving through from the eastern parts of Victoria and along with an upper level trough would bring the storms to central Victoria.

The cool conditions, humidity plus thunderstorms was a rare occurrence for summer in Bendigo, Mr Carlyon said.

"It happens every so often but usually when we have storms in the summer, it's in the mid to high 30s when there's more humidity."

While rain is predicted throughout the weekend across the state, Mr Carlyon said the rainfall in Bendigo would be "moderate".

Mr Carlyon said the drop in temperature would be caused by the increased cloud cover throughout the weekend.

Goodness! Global warming, oops, climate change at work again.

Whatever happened to all those predictions of hotter summers and that the 9 year drought we had would not break. Also there would be continuing years of low rainfall. Rare the coming weather occurrence may be - more cooler weather and some rain - it appears likely to happen.

Surely all those eminent and 'qualified' people and their supporters could not have been wrong? How the future years will be interesting.

Interesting, yes Colin.

Jumping to a conclusion again. Science talks of a generational change. It's not going to just 'happen' like you might tend to expect. Much like many other things in life.

Stewart who is right and who is wrong???

We listen to some people that predict dome and gloom with our wheather predictions for the future with Global Warming.

Then we have others that predict different wheather like the normal seasons with the drought over.

Who do we believe??? is the interesting result.

Ahhh yes Frank, that is the question isn't it.

The doomsayers (read 'experts') tell us the only science we should believe is the science that is pro global warming...or is it climate change...or...?

They're so confused about it they have to give it a new title every time the weather pattern changes!

Its a pity that so many people confuse the concept of weather with that of climate. Of course the weather will vary to a great extent from day to day, week to week, but the climate is undoubtedly warming, as average global temperature measurements attest. And, by the way, "qualified" people have put in years of study to gain a scientific understanding of these issue and must be shown a little more respect. So who do we believe? ...the bloke who just "reckons" or the professional scientist who does the peer reviewed research.
