RIVERS and creeks still running have pushed Lake Eppalock to 25 per cent of capacity.
It was another busy weekend for Eppalock businesses as tourists were drawn back to the lake and a few waterskiers even braved the cold water.
Kimbolton Kiosk owner Sam Bonanno said he thought he’d stocked up enough after selling out of supplies last week.
“But I’ve nearly sold out again,” he said.
“They’re coming from Bendigo, Melbourne and all around the place.
“The water hasn’t been like this in nearly 10 years.”
Lake Eppalock Marine owner Kevin Barker said he’d had a great weekend.
“I sold a boat yesterday,” he said.
“The guy said that now the lake was back he was going to have it.”
Mr Barker said a group of skiers had taken to the water at the weekend, but he would be waiting for warmer weather.
“There was a group of boys went out,” he said.
“The water’s pretty cold though – when the sun is out we’ll get a few more.
“After the footy [season] there will be people everywhere out here.”
Mr Barker said it was encouraging to see people using the lake after such a long dry period.
Mr Bonnano said it would be a bit longer until he’d be able to see skiers at the kiosk.
“There’s still a few trees coming up out of the water so people are probably being a bit careful still.
“I think they’ll be back soon though.”
Caravan park owners have already had waterskiers calling to say they were interested in visiting during summer.
Many of Eppalock’s regular visitors switched to Echuca and the Murray River because of restrictions on speedboats at the lake, but caravan park owners are confident they’ll find their way back this summer.
