A DRIVER who broke the speed limit by more than 40kmh and a hoon caught doing doughnuts in front of police were among the 112 motorists nabbed during Operation RAID last weekend.
Police conducted 730 preliminary breath tests and caught five drink-drivers, three of whom were repeat offenders.
Operation RAID (Remove All Impaired Drivers) started on November 20.
Sergeant Geoff Annand said police caught:
- 40 speeding drivers;
- 34 people for seatbelt offences;
- Two people for licensing offences; and
- 31 people for other traffic offences.
On Saturday about 2.10pm, police intercepted a Chinese man who was visiting Australia.
The man was driving south on the Calder Freeway in the vicinity of Harcourt.
The 28-year-old was booked travelling at 153kmh in an area with a limit of 110kmh.
The man received a $496 fine.
Police charged a man with five driving offences after he was seen doing doughnuts in Eaglehawk at 9pm on Saturday.
The 26-year-old man’s SS Holden Commodore was impounded after he was caught in Llewellyn Court.
The man will be charged via summons with five counts including careless driving.
Last year the nation-wide Operation RAID resulted in more than 4000 motorists being charged with drinking or drug offences.
More than 569,000 breath tests were conducted during the 2008 campaign.
Operation RAID finishes on Saturday, December 12.
