ONE of regional Victoria's most important events on the farming calendar starts today with the opening of the 45th annual Elmore Field Days.
The site has been booked out for the three-day event, which draws exhibitors and visitors from across south-eastern Australia and beyond.
Yesterday, exhibitors were putting the finishing touches on this year's displays, and the special feature 'Capitalising on Climate Change' is expected to be a highlight of the event.
As part of the focus on renewable technology, the advances in alternative energy - especially the potential for application on the farm - will be a major feature.
This year, La Trobe University will provide a special information project designed to help farmers understand the effects of energy consumption, calculate carbon emissions and review the opportunities that may arise in carbon trading and carbon credits.
Day one also features a presentation by Ben Keogh of Australian Carbon Traders in the auditorium from 2pm.
In his welcome to the Elmore Field Days 2008, president Darren Trewick said he was confident of another comprehensive and informative display of static and in-field machinery, and goods and services to interest anyone in the agricultural sector.
The Elmore Field Days site is open from 8.30am to 5pm each day.
