THERE was no dashing in the snow, but a crowd of thousands sang and laughed all the way through the Community Carols in Rosalind Park last night.
After five years at Lake Weeroona, the carols returned to their traditional home on a perfect summer night.
The event had previously been at Rosalind Park for 35 years.
The night was hosted by 3BO FM’s Shaz and Cogho.
“It’s sensational coming back here to Rosalind Park,” Cogho told The Advertiser.
“The people have voted with their feet,” he said, gesturing to the enormous crowd.
He estimated there were between 6000 to 7000 people settling in for the night.
“Everyone is really in the Christmas spirit.” Bendigo mayor, Councillor Kevin Gibbins was thrilled with the evening.
“I think it’s great it’s back at Rosalind Park,” he said.
“The gardens are very well cared for by staff and the gardens are really made for the people; they carry a crowd very well.
“Tonight is a terrific family occasion - it’s a very special night.” Cr Gibbins described Rosalind Park as a perfect natural amphitheatre.
“The numbers here support the move.
“It’s wonderful to see so many people.” The crowd was treated to a range of performances including singing, dancing and a visit from Santa.
Bendigo’s Australian Idol winner Kate DeAraugo delighted carollers with her renditions of Jingle Bell Rock and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
