BENDIGO Senior Secondary College students are putting on a gold performance today.Their production of Alchemy kicked off last night with a performance at the Old Fire Station theatre and continues with a performance later today.Dance teacher Megan Beckwith said the show had a bit of something for everyone and included pieces taken from the students’ performances in the past two rock eisteddfods.“The show is called Alchemy,” she said.“It’s about the students’ transformation into gold.“Alchemy is the process of making gold, it’s a bit magical.“Students started the rehearsals and are developing and making their own gold.”Ms Beckwith said the show was “exciting” in its offering of student talent.“We’ve got lots of styles of dance from Irish dancing, tap, hip-hop and break to contemporary and ballet,” she said.“There’s been a fair bit of collaboration, too, with different groups.“We’ve got the school guitar band led by John Snowdon and students are doing their own works as well.“It’s a really good showcase of the talents the school has to offer.”The production came about to fill the void left after rock eisteddfod was cancelled this year.“This is our replacement rock eisteddfod,” Ms Beckwith said.
