COMET HILL Primary School students could have thought they were gazing into space yesterday. It came as part of a Kids in Space presentation by the space camp ambassador for Australia Anne Buckland. The presentation was supported by the federal government funded Smarter Schools project. Smarter Schools project outreach worker for Eaglehawk, Gary Griffin said the presentation involved students being shown a Russian astronaut suit and learning about the challenges for astronauts with eating and going to the toilet while in space.About 45 students watched the presentation, which lasted for about an hour. “They were completely engaged and really excited,’’ said Ms Buckland. They were also shown parts of a space shuttle. Mr Griffin said the students had been learning about space this term and this included a visit to the planetarium at the Bendigo Discovery Science and Technology Centre. Mr Griffin said the Smarter Schools project was spread across three schools in Bendigo. The schools involved are Comet Hill, Eaglehawk Primary and Eaglehawk Secondary College. The project has been running for about four weeks.
