Student tuned in for success

07 Sep, 2010 10:16 PM
BENDIGO Senior Secondary College student Josh Dundas has been crowned 2010 musician of the year.

The year 12 student gave a near-perfect solo performance on his clarinet to take out the title at The Capital theatre.

Josh was also named winner of the audience choice award at the school event.

Josh said that the continued support of his Bendigo Senior Secondary College music teachers, practice with his peers and a passion for music had helped him secure the award.

However, despite his musical ability, Josh hopes to pursue a career in the health sector.

“I’d like to study nursing and public health, and some day travel abroad where I can help others,” he said.

Josh hopes to study at Deakin University in Melbourne next year.

Music teacher Matt Pankhurst said the competition was part of the school’s strong music tradition.

“The students also receive feedback from the judges, which also helps them improve their performance,’’ he said.

Two other award winners from the night were Jayme Tolley and Dylan Ringuede, who received excellence in performance awards.
