JEMIMAH Bish is hoping her speed stacking skills will come in handy when she competes for Australia in the world championships this month.
The 13-year-old “Stackaroo” is off to Texas this weekend for her first international competition as a member of the Australian team.
“There was a fun day at school and at church and I saw it and liked it,” she said.
“I practised with cups and then got a set. I like to practise a couple of hours a day.”
Jemimah will compete in the individual 3x3x3, 3x6x3 and cycle events while there are also double and team relay categories at the championships.
“We get to do practices and then we do our stacks,” she said.
Australian coach Ty Hallam said the Stackaroos were the pinnacle for aspiring stackers.
“There’s the Hockeyroos, the Socceroos and we stack so we’re the Stackaroos,” he said.
“At Worlds this year there will be 20 countries represented, between 1000 and 1500 stackers but 200 of those are the world’s elite.
“The beauty of it is there is no difference between boys and girls – girls can be as good as, if not better than, the boys.”
Jemimah will join the Australian number one in her age group, 18-year-old Rachael Bromley.
