Smash and grab nets thieves coins haul

THIEVES stole $2000 from Eaglehawk’s Borough Club early yesterday morning in a smash and grab.Bendigo Police Acting Sergeant Della Nihill said the club was broken into around 1.50am and $2000 in $1 coins was taken. “The alarm was activated ... and security attended,” she said.“The offender is still at large.”Acting Sergeant Nihill said a door to the club had been smashed in to gain entry.Bendigo Stadium chief executive officer Ron Stockdale said the offender had known where to look.“They found where we store the coins,” he said.“They’ve used a hammer to break the door to get in.”Mr Stockdale said they will review their security system after the incident.“We will be looking at it,” he said.“Not that we think there’s anything wrong with it.”The offender fled the scene before security and police arrived.Anyone with information about the break-in should contact CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
