Short film festival winners hit town

OUTSTANDING films from this year’s St Kilda Film Festival will screen at Eaglehawk’s Star Cinema.The top 100 short films will screen across Victoria during August with the tour arriving in Eaglehawk today.The St Kilda Film Festival tour ensures that film buffs across the state have the opportunity to view this year’s entrants from Australia’s largest short film competition.Festival director Paul Harris said the tour was a national showcase and offered audiences the opportunity to view some of the most innovative, cutting-edge, inspiring and entertaining work from Australia’s emerging filmmakers. The festival’s best short-film winner The Kiss, directed by Ashlee Page, follows the story of two teenage girls, fuelled by alcohol and hormones, whose fun night out takes a dangerous turn when they become trapped in a water tank.The tour program also includes Nash Edgerton’s film Bear, while Nadine Garner makes her directorial debut with Afterglow.Jack Thompson, Gary Sweet and Sigrid Thornton appear together for the first time in The Telegram Man.
