ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour was targeted at Bendigo’s nightspots over the weekend with a visit from the Operational Response Unit.
On Friday night 12 people were locked up for being drunk while another 21 were arrested on Saturday night.
Bendigo Sergeant John Dalton said the response unit had been formed to travel around the state and assist local police to stop anti-social behaviour.
“There’s quite a large contingent of police who were out and about,” he said. “Quite often we get numbers (of drunk people) like that but we don’t normally have that many police out.
People were scrutinised.”
Three young women were taken to hospital after their car hit a tree on Timor Road near Maryborough on Saturday night.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said a 17-year-old was taken to Bendigo hosptial with lower back injuries while a 23-year-old was taken to the Ballarat hospital with abdomenal injuries.
Mr Mullen said the 19-year-old driver was also taken to Ballarat with chest soreness from her seatbelt.
Meanwhile a woman was trapped in her vehicle for a short time yesterday morning after a crash at Gisborne, the result of black ice on the road.
Mr Mullen said the woman’s car hit a tree on Station Road at Gisborne about 8.30am.
He said the woman had no obvious injuries but was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for observation.
