BENDIGO TAFE staff told the Australian Education Union in a meeting yesterday that morale was low as a result of the state government's skills reform.
Concerns about student enrolments and course costs were raised at the meeting with Victorian TAFE branch vice-president Jo Fogarty, who said staff were worried about their futures.
``They are really worried about the effects the changes are having on staff morale,'' she said.
``One man said he'd been a TAFE teacher for 28 years and he'd never seen things so bad.''
Teachers, students and the Australian Education Union are waiting on the outcome of a review into skills reform commissioned recently by the state government.
``We made a submission and nearly 400 TAFE students, parents and teachers also made comments,'' Ms Fogarty said.
``Now we are just waiting for the outcome to see what we do next.''
Ms Fogarty said the childcare course normally had a class of 20 students, but was down to just eight this year.
The meeting followed a poll that found more than 80 per cent of people opposed changes to TAFE fees and abolishing the concession rate for diploma and advanced diplomas.
Ms Fogarty said there were concerns the review was not a thorough examination of changes.
"What we are most concerned about is the state government's commitment to this review.''
