Quambatook prepares for flood

09 Sep, 2010 12:13 PM
THE SES is preparing for the Avoca River to flood in Quambatook between late Friday night and Saturday morning.

Flooding of the Loddon River was scaled back to moderate, as it spreads out on plains at Appin South.

Police, SES, North Central Catchment Management Authority and Gannawarra Shire Council representatives spoke to about 80 people at a community meeting in Quambatook yesterday.

SES North West region manager Graeme Poulton said Quambatook was well-prepared for a flood.

Mr Poulton said 10-12 houses along the river would be affected at worst.

He said the emergency management team at Quambatook were meeting this morning with Golden Rivers Football League officials, who were planning to stage the grand final in Quambatook on Saturday.

Mr Poulton said the Loddon River would flood at Kerang but the town was "very well protected by levee banks".

A flood information meeting will be held at the Kerang Memorial Hall in Nolan Street at 5pm today.
