FLUORO lycra, blue eyeshadow and shoulder pads will bring the Bendigo Art Gallery back to the future with its new exhibition, which opened at the weekend. Senior curator Tracy Cooper-Lavery said enough time had passed to look back at the ‘80s objectively.
“It’s about celebrating the ‘80s, not making fun of them,” she said.
“We’ve picked out the good things and the things we’d like to forget.
“The majority of the work comes from our collection, including painting, work on paper, ceramics and sculpture.”
Ms Cooper-Lavery said a highlight of the Back to the Future exhibition would be the pleasuredome party.
“There’ll be three hours of cocktails, dancing and music,” she said.
“It’ll be a party to celebrate all things ‘80s.”
The exhibition also includes a small fashion collection by NSW Darnell Collection and LP covers from the ‘80s.
“Graphic design, fashion and art were a big part of the ‘80s,” Ms Cooper-Lavery said.
The pleasuredome party is on Saturday, December 12 and tickets are available at the gallery.
The ‘80s exhibition runs until January 17.
