SERVICES assisting families and children will get a $2.5 million boost in the Central Goldfields Shire.Member for Northern Victoria Damian Drum announced $2.5 million over three years from the state government’s Regional Growth Fund, for the Go Goldfields action plan. The action plan commits to implementing additional services including: early years speech pathology; children’s library services; literacy; parenting support services; family violence assistance; youth mentoring; and education and job linkages.Go Goldfields, a multi-agency alliance, created the action plan to support children and families with a range of services to ensure young people have the best chance of succeeding in education, employment and achieving their life goals.Go Goldfields chairman and Central Goldfields Mayor Chris Meddows-Taylor said the funding would change lives for the better and help children have a great start to life.“This funding goes to the heart of where there is real need by providing new leading-edge programs to support our children, young people and their families and will really make a positive difference,’’ he said.“It will give all children a great start in life and help them to be successful in school and in their lives. Importantly, it will provide help to families who are finding the going tough and need some support.’’Mr Drum, also Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development, said Go Goldfields was a result of the shire and broader community working to plan for the region to quickly take up growth opportunities. He said the action plan had identified the strengths and weakness in the region. Go Goldfields includes representatives from ASETERIA Disability Services; Bendigo Health; Central Victoria Health Alliance; Emergency Accommodation and Support Enterprises; Goldfields Education and Learning Centre; Maryborough District Health Service; Maryborough Education Centre; Maryborough Police; Salvation Army; and St Luke’s Anglicare.
