'Outrageous' room charge endangers Castlemaine CWA

30 Jan, 2012 02:46 PM
THE Castlemaine CWA is in danger of folding, thanks to new room rental charges from the Mount Alexander Shire.

The CWA branch has been told it must cough up more than $2500 if it wants to continue using the Ray Bradfield room for meetings and events.

Castlemaine CWA president Allison Nye said the group only made about $500 and the new room charges were out of its reach.

"We're all a bit disgusted," she said.

"It's outrageous really.

"We've never been charged for the room before and now they want us to pay $2777.50 for the year.

"Every dollar we get is what we actually have to earn so it's up to us to either cook a lot of scones or, I don't know, maybe do nude calendars for the next 15 years.

"It's looking pretty impossible at this stage."

WHAT!!!!!

Am I reading correctly??

Our CWA ladies are going to be charged an outrageous fee to use a meeting place.

This branch along with alot of other CWA groups are facing extinction with the type of fees which they are trying to impose.

Surely a group of talented women that get together for social interaction that have done so for many years and offer to communities baking, craft work and setting a standard of friendship that many clubs would be envious of.

Surely the group with their scones and tea and friendliness deserve more dignity than is being shown.
