Our Shed gets a new toy

20 Aug, 2011 04:00 AM
Members of Our Shed in Eaglehawk were over the moon with a prized new addition to their workshop. The “thicknesser” was purchased with help from the Eaglehawk Y-Service Club and will allow workers to re-surface and recycle old timbers for the shed’s Re.generate business. Pictured is shed supervisor Barry Reid and Y-Service Club president John Gregory giving the thicknesser a test run. As well as its recycled furniture, Our Shed provides somewhere for people to connect with others, create, build and repair, or just have a cuppa.

Our Shed is sure to be a great success. I was surprised by its size and the level of fitting out. It is loaded with machinery. Bendigo has many retired people with metal and woodworking skills. With that machinery they could pass on a wealth of skills. The only 'problem' I foresee is that it may well become so popular with so many groups that getting access to machines may become difficult.
