A BENDIGO man who crashed his car while drunk has lost his licence for 12 months.
Bradley Hosking had been drinking and was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle and ploughed through a fence along the Wimmera Highway in December last year.
He appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to drink-driving, excessive speeding and careless driving.
The court heard Hosking was detected by police travelling at 139kmh in a 100kmh zone along the Wimmera Highway.
Prosecutor, Leading Senior Constable Dave Somerton, said that before police could intercept Hosking, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed through a fence. Hosking was lucky to escape unharmed after coming to a stop between two trees, the court heard.
Leading Senior Constable Somerton said police conducted a preliminary breath test at the scene of a crash, which indicated Hosking had been drinking.
As a result he was taken to the Bendigo Police Station where he recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.064.
Hosking told police he thought he was to drive and that he was just “cruising home”, the court heard.
Magistrate Bruce Cottrill wasn’t impressed.
Mr Cottrill convicted and fined Hosking $1200 and ordered him off the road for 12 months.
