With the kick-off of Newstead Live on Australia Day, the usually calm streets of the country town will be jam-packed with music lovers.
Newstead will host a smorgasbord of international and local music artists across four days.
Newstead Live director Andrew Pattison said he had seen the festival become a favourite among performers and crowds and the event was really putting Newstead on the map.
“Newstead is an ideal town for a small festival, it was almost designed to have one in it,” Mr Pattison said.
“It has a lot of charm and is very relaxed and friendly.
“There are a lot of opportunities to take part, many people just sit outside the pub and play with musicians.”
Newstead Live is expected to pull crowds of 700, doubling the town’s population.
Mr Pattison said it was a great opportunity to support and encourage live music.
Performer Broderick Smith, who will be playing for a second time at the festival, still enjoys the opportunity to meet up with other musicians.
The singer songwriter said the festival was very laid back and he looked forward to performing.
“It’s a great area and is a good reason for musicians to display their creative impulses,” he said.
Mr Smith urges locals to head down to the festival and listen to the talent on show.
“You may get a pleasant surprise and might find good music your unaware of,” he said.
Those who attend will get to see Mr Smith perform with his harmonica and guitarist Matt Walker.
Newstead Live started on Australia Day and will continue until tomorrow night.
Tickets are available online at www.newsteadlive.com or from festival reception at the event.
