A SPRING Gully man described by Bendigo detectives as one of Victoria’s worst child sex offenders will make a renewed bid for bail in the Supreme Court next week.
Dennis Alfred Goudge remains in custody following his arrest in March.
This week he was charged with almost 80 additional offences, bringing the total to 136 he will face at a later date.
The charges span more than three decades and include multiple counts of rape, sexual penetration of a child under 10, sexual penetration of a child under 16, gross indecency and indecent assault.
At the accused’s bid for bail in March, Detective Senior Constable Danny McQuinn of the crime investigation unit told Bendigo Magistrates Court that he considered Goudge, 55, to be an aggressive, nasty and dark sexual predator.
The application for bail before magistrate Bruce Cottrill was denied, but this week Goudge submitted application papers for a new hearing.
The date is yet to be set, but he is expected to appear at the Supreme Court in Melbourne next week.
The police have accused Goudge of committing dozens of offences across regional Victoria between 1970 and 2000.
Many of the incidents are alleged to have occurred in his car or home, and several of the alleged victims are siblings.
Accusations at Goudge’s bail application included that he encouraged siblings and other children to engage in sex, and in sexual activity with each other. Detective McQuinn said police would allege that Goudge used tactics to lure children he later assaulted, including promises of singing lessons, driving lessons and fishing trips.
Regardless of whether his bail application succeeds next week, Goudge will face Bendigo Magistrates Court on July 22 for a committal mention.
