THE life of a Bendigo woman who lost her life to ovarian cancer will be celebrated at a fundraising event on February 25.Jenny Mason died in August last year after losing her battle with ovarian cancer.Jenny’s long-time friend Carolyn Senter said a day of music would be held in her honour at St Luke’s Anglican Church in White Hills.“She was a church musician, she was a beautiful guitarist,” Ms Senter said. “So we’ll be recreating some of the music she liked.”Food and drinks will be provided and entry cost is $30 per person or $50 for families.Ms Senter said Jenny was just 54 when she died.“Because she was such a fighter no one expected this to happen to her,” she said. “The symptoms of ovarian cancer are bloating, tiredness, and backache can come into it, too. What woman doesn’t feel these things at some time?“Jenny put all of this down to being a little overweight and in need of a holiday. But it turned out to be ovarian cancer.”Ms Senter said funds raised at Sing for Jenny would be donated to Ovarian Cancer Australia to assist with research.“We need to raise awareness and we need to make noise,” she said.Ms Senter said Sing for Jenny coincided with Ovarian Cancer Awareness month which is held in February.Ovarian Cancer Australia chair Paula Benson said one Australian woman would lose their battle with ovarian cancer every 11 hours.“However, if diagnosed in the early stages most women will survive,” she said.People can find out more about Sing for Jenny by phoning 5442 2875 or 5439 3837.
