Locals give St Patrick's Day the green light

17 Mar, 2010 04:00 AM
IT’S St Patrick’s Day and Irish eyes will be smiling on Bendigo with more activities than you can poke a shellelagh at.

It’s enough to turn an Orangeman green with envy.

Pugg Mahones has a full St Patrick’s Day planned (naturally) with traditional green beer and Guinness on the menu, along with live Irish entertainment and maybe a leprechaun or two.

Venue manager Rod Garner said St Patrick’s Day at the pub would kick off with a big Irish breakfast at 9am followed by traditional entertainment.

“We have an Irish band and highland dancers as well.

“We do this every year.

“There are also specials where you can win shirts and prizes.”

Mr Garner said Pugg Mahones was all decked out in green, and he encouraged others to dress up in the Irish theme to celebrate the day.

“Most certainly, we’d love people to dress up. We’ve got the place all decorated.”
