THE Northern Loddon Mallee Regional Strategic Plan outlines seven key strategic directions for the region to boost the economy and build stronger communities.
Leaders from the Campaspe, Gannawarra, Buloke, Swan Hill and Mildura municipalities presented the plan to Regional and Rural Development Minister Jacinta Allan in Swan Hill yesterday.
The strategic directions include: balancing irrigation, and water needs; strengthening communities, especially small towns; strengthening and diversifying the economy; improving infrastructure; improving education and training outcomes; protecting and enhancing the environment; and resolving cross-border issues.
“Highlights of the Northern Loddon Mallee plan include opportunities in emerging industries such as solar and other renewable energies, and working to overcome challenges such as adapting to a changing climate, distance between settlements and access to services,’’ Ms Allan said.
The plan is one of eight regional plans developed across Victoria as part of the state government’s Ready for Tomorrow: A Blueprint for Regional and Rural Victoria.
