Kerang bridge collapse injures man

07 Feb, 2012 03:25 PM
A BENDIGO man is in a stable condition after falling from a bridge over Pyramid Creek in Kerang yesterday.

Tom Fitt was part of a team of contractors working for VicTrack removing an abandoned bridge from the former Kerang-Koondrook railway line when part of the Haymans Lane bridge collapsed around 2.30pm.

An excavator, being used to move a seven-metre beam at the time, knocked the 25-year-old as it fell sideways into the creek below.

Mr Fitt was discovered face-down in the water not breathing forcing workmates to perform CPR.

He was taken to Kerang District Health in a critical condition, and then transferred by air ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious head injuries.
