WEEROONA College is hosting the first international Energy Breakthrough competitor this week as preparations for the historic human-powered vehicle event hit top gear.
Team Pecos of New Mexico will blaze a trail for future international teams keen to take the Energy Breakthrough crown, which will be decided in Maryborough this weekend.
The college was selected to host Team Pecos because of its impressive record in Energy Breakthrough competition over the past 10 years.
The school has built the Pecos car along with five of its own during hectic preparations lasting several months.
“We have the largest number of teams entered this year,’’ Energy Breakthrough team co-ordinator John Taylor said.
“It’s the first time an international team has competed and they’re expecting to do well.
“I’ve heard rumours about other overseas teams coming to check the event out with a view to participating.
“It is a unique event around the world . . . and international teams are the logical next step.’’
