High hopes for some special messages

07 Sep, 2010 10:29 PM
A SEA of white balloons carrying tribute messages and flower seeds from Kalianna Special School students’ were sent skyward yesterday.

The balloon launch marked the 14th annual White Balloon Day organised by Bravehearts Australia as part of Child Protection Week, which runs until September 12.

Kalianna school principal Alison Byron said the balloons were attached to small bags of seeds with the school’s contact information.

“We’d like it if people who find the balloons could get in touch with the school and plant the seeds,” she said.

Mrs Byron said the students were taught personal and kitchen safety, as well as how to report bullying and cyber bullying.

According to Bravehearts, the national campaign is designed to recognise, create awareness for and support the victims of child assault.
