BENDIGO Health staff will receive counselling after treating a group of colleagues following Saturday’s Maiden Gully bus crash.Two women aged 33 and 57 were flown from the scene and two Bendigo Health staff were later flown to Melbourne.The hospital’s director of emergency medicine, Salomon Zolstein, said staff who responded to the emergency would be debriefed and offered ongoing support.“Many of the passengers on the bus were staff at our hospital, our friends and colleagues,” he said.“The hospital has made arrangements to counsel, debrief and support our staff who have been affected by the events of (Saturday) night.“These arrangements will be ongoing and we will all support each other at this difficult time.”Dr Zolstein praised the efforts of staff who dealt with the crash victims.“Hospital staff worked as a well co-ordinated, highly professional team bringing together emergency department, surgical and orthopaedic teams, supported by senior nursing management, ward staff, radiology and porters,” he said.“Our Red Cross volunteers also played an important role in helping to look after concerned relatives and friends of the injured.”The 33-year-old woman remains in a stable condition at The Alfred and the 57-year-old woman is still in a serious condition in intensive care at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.Another woman involved in the accident remains in a stable condition at Bendigo Hospital.The Austin Hospital was unable to provide condition updates for patients transferred there.A Bendigo Health spokeswoman said the hospital treated other patients for lacerations, swelling, bruising and fractures.
