Have a say, but write it

Have a say, but write it

07 Jul, 2009 05:00 AM
PEOPLE should write down their opinions about proposed changes to Mitchell Street, Cr Lisa Ruffell says.

She said that she had been inundated with people telling her their opinion.

While she was very happy to listen, she said that for people’s ideas to be considered by the City of Greater Bendigo Council, they had to be written submissions.

“I’m encouraging the community to submit ideas according to the due process,” Cr Ruffell said.

“So many people are coming in here (to the shop) and coming up with great ideas.

“They just want to tell me, but unfortunately that is not the way to go.”

Cr Ruffell said people did not need any special writing skills to make a submission.

“It doesn’t have to be lengthy,” she said, “just something with dot points and the person’s name and address.

“People have got some brilliant ideas, and these are the kinds of things we need to hear.”

Cr Ruffell said she was happy to hand written comments to the council.

The six concept plans for the redevelopment of Mitchell Street and further information can be viewed at the city offices or online at www.bendigo.vic.gov.au

The city is inviting submissions about the concept designs until July 17.

Does it matter? The point is, everyone has an opinion and the Council just wants to ensure that the community's views are included in the feedback.

I think all the Councillors would encourage people to be part of this process.

It would be worth the effort to write if the good for nothings listen to what people say. They haven't so far in anything to date.

Cam, Lisa is entitled to have her say in either capacity because she a shop owner and also a councillor. I recall many councillors speaking out about things that were not in their ward without a comment from you, besides I thought that the councillors were elected for the good of the whole city not just a small pocket that is called their own ward!! So grow up and get over it, at least she is prepared to put her hand up for the good of the whole of Bendigo and not just her ward!!
