THE state government has pledged $25,000 to find a central Victorian boy who vanished 36 years ago.Maryborough's Terry James Floyd disappeared when he was 12. He disappeared from the intersection of the Sunraysia and Pyrenees highways, near Avoca, on June 28, 1975. Terry’s brother Daryl , who has spent years looking for him, believes he is buried in a mine shaft at Avoca.Mr Floyd said yesterday the funds would ensure the excavation of the mine could continue.“(The money) gets us down there, it gets us back in the mine,” he said.“It will be the end of January.”Police Minister Peter Ryan confirmed the funds yesterday and said the money was “a gesture of goodwill” from the government.“The assistance is provided on the basis that it is considered by Victoria Police that excavation to a lower depth may be able to resolve whether Terry Floyd’s body is located there,” he said.“This $25,000 payment is in addition to Mr Floyd’s significant personal contribution and a $50,000 payment by Victoria Police in 2010."
