THE enormous task of replacing fire-razed fences in the Redesdale area has been helped by a generous donation of fencing materials. The Elmore Charity Ball Committee handed $16,500 in fencing materials to the group co-ordinating the replacement of 400 kilometres of ruined fencing.Co-ordinator for the Redesdale area Karl Metcalf, said 200 kilometres of new fencing had been completed by farmers and volunteer groups. He said the generosity of the Charity Ball Committee was greatly appreciated by the community.“I believe the donation has bought two pallets of barbed wire, a pallet of plain wire, two pallets of cyclone wire and 1200 steel posts,” Mr Metcalf said.President of the Elmore Charity Ball Committee, Brian Mullane, said the Redesdale fire donation was the largest they had made.“It is great to be able to direct funds we raised from the ball to such a worthwhile cause,” he said.Mr Metcalf said the input from volunteers assisting with fencing had at times been overwhelming.“We have had groups from Western Australia, Kangaroo Island, from churches and service clubs and they have been magnificent,” he said.“However, we do need further help to make sure all burnt fences are replaced.”Victorian Farmers Federation president Andrew Broad said the opportunity for new requests to be met would soon be drawing to a close.“With registrations to close on July 1, I encourage all landholders affected by the fires who have not registered their interest to contact VFF fencing co-ordinator Wal Lawson on 1300 882 833,” he said.
