Foundry waiting for VCAT decision

09 Feb, 2011 03:00 AM
THE hearing at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal into the Foundry Hotel’s bid for 30 poker machines is expected to finish on Friday.

The Golden Square hotel is fighting the City of Greater Bendigo’s decision to refuse a planning permit to make room for the poker machines.

The council has also taken the Victoria Commission for Gambling Regulation to VCAT over its decision to approve the hotel’s bid for the pokies.

The two VCAT hearings began on Monday and are both expected to finish on Friday.

The Foundry Hotel Complex’s VCGR approval is to share in the pool of 547 pokies in Bendigo.

Last year the council rejected a planning application that would have seen a second storey added and the ground floor extended at the hotel.

The council received eight objections to the proposal, which included concerns about the applicant’s bid relating to parking and additional noise from the hotel.

The council also refused to support the hotel’s application with the VCGR because the overall economic and social impact of the hotel’s gaming proposal would be detrimental to Bendigo.
