Florists bloom as Valentine's Day looms in Bendigo

11 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
WITH Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Bloom ‘N’ Gifts owner Robyn Cavender, above, is getting swept by it all.

“It’s exciting, and there are many guys who come in and I like helping them choose what to buy,” she said.

Mrs Cavendar has been in the floristry business long enough to have seen it all.

“One of my favourite stories from Valentine’s Day was a young chap who came in one year and ordered quite a few buckets of rose petals,” she said.

“He was organising a romantic dinner for his girlfriend, and left rose petals all throughout the house and made heart patterns on the floor.

“Obviously it worked, because they got engaged, and I actually did the flowers for their wedding.”

But not all stories are so romantic.

“I’ve had a lady come in who never used to get flowers from her husband, not on Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day or her birthday,” Mrs Cavender said.

“She used to buy her own flowers and send the bill to him!”
