CAMPASPE Mayor Peter Williams says predicted floods for the Murray River in Echuca are "very manageable".
About 250 people went to a community meeting last night to hear the latest information from the SES, who advised a smaller peak would reach Echuca later today but a larger peak was predicted for Wednesday.
SES volunteers and council workers are sandbagging properties and topping up levees in preparation.
Cr Williams said Echuca had experienced floods before and was well prepared.
"The community are not showing any signs of panic,'' he said.
"A number of properties may have some water but there's no reason to think homes will be inundated.''
SES north west region incident controller Stan Hendy said water was also rising in the Avoca River at Quambatook, and is expected to peak tomorrow.
"It's unknown what time because the flood water in the river has been slowing down,'' he said.
Mr Hendy said high river levels would stay in Quambatook for five days.
He said SES would sandbag around a few houses that were at risk of flooding.
The Golden Rivers Football League grand final, scheduled to be held in Quambatook tomorrow, has been moved to Murrabit due to the flood concerns.
Meanwhile, about 100 people attended a community meeting in Kerang yesterday.
Mr Hendy said authorities were waiting for the Loddon River to peak at Appin South, expected to do so tomorrow, before making a prediction of when the river would peak at Kerang.
He said SES crews were also at Culgoa, where homes are at risk from flooding of the Tyrell Creek, a subsidiary of the Avoca River.
