Flood meetings called in Quambatook and Echuca

08 Sep, 2010 12:19 PM
Residents in Quambatook and Echuca are being advised of flood information meetings today and tomorrow.

Flood water from the Avoca River is beginning to arrive in the small town of Quambatook and a meeting will be held at 5pm tonight at the Quambatook Senior Citizens Centre in Guthrie Street.

A community meeting in Echuca at 5pm tomorrow will advise people of the impending threat of the Murray River flooding in Echuca.

Authorities expect flooding to occur in the Echuca area early next week.

Campaspe Mayor Peter Williams said the SES would inform people of the situation at the meeting, at the council's meeting room.

Cr Williams expected flooding to impact people in low lying areas.

He said authorities were monitoring flood levels in the Goulburn River in Shepparton.

"It will take five or six days to get from Shepparton to Echuca,'' he said.
