AN Epsom man yesterday became Bendigo’s 400th hoon to have his car - or in this case his father’s car - impounded.
Senior Constable Todd Deary of Bendigo’s Traffic Management Unit said an off-duty police officer saw the red Ford Falcon perform a 70m burnout in Napier Street, White Hills, on Sunday night and reported him.
Senior Constable Deary said officers caught up with the 29-year-old man about 9am yesterday and seized the car.
Yesterday’s impoundment enhances Bendigo’s reputation as the hoon capital of the world.
On average, police in Bendigo have impounded more than 120 cars each year since the anti-hoon laws came into effect in July, 2006.
Senior Constable Deary said the “label” just went to show Bendigo police weren’t willing to tolerate hoon behaviour.
He said the 29-year-old would be charged on summons to appear in the Bendigo Magistrates Court.
