A DISTRESSED father whose 13-year-old daughter has been named and her sexual performance rated on a Facebook page featuring Bendigo and Castlemaine teens says the social networking site’s owners should be held accountable. The man, who the Bendigo Advertiser will not identify, said his daughter will be “devastated” to learn she has been named on the page, one of two explicit pages exposing the alleged sexual behaviour of our region’s youth. The newspaper contacted the man because of his daughter’s age and the nature of comments about her.“If I ever find out who set up this Facebook page, they’re gone,” the man said.“And if I ever catch up with the guy who runs this Facebook s***, I’d love to put him six feet under too.“Facebook wrecks kids’ lives and it wrecks families. My girl is only 13.“Why isn’t Facebook doing something?”The Facebook page on which the girl is named has been operating since about 3.45pm on Wednesday but had well over 1700 members, including the girl, before it was removed by Facebook at 2pm yesterday.Another Facebook page, which was exposed earlier this month by the Bendigo Advertiser, has re-emerged under the same name despite being removed from Facebook, and has almost 1700 members. The pages name hundreds of young people, describe in detail their sexual performance and offer a rating out of 10.Virtually all the reports are made anonymously. There have been up to 10 incarnations of one site in recent weeks.Cyber safety campaigner Susan McLean said Facebook must move to stamp out so-called “r..t rate” sites.“Facebook works on self-reporting. If you report it, they will take it down,” she said.“I searched for ‘r..t rate’ on Facebook last night and I found 74 pages.“They could simply wipe the lot, so perhaps Facebook could be doing a little more.“They need to take a stand and develop a social conscience and do this.”The Bendigo police sexual offences and child abuse unit has been notified about the pages.Bendigo police Sergeant Rose Rowe said those who set up the pages can be charged.“They could be charged with stalking or telecommunications offences, notwithstanding the personal effect on people because of that material,” she said. She encouraged anyone named in the pages or who is the victim of any harassing or intimidating behaviour online to phone Bendigo police on 5448 1300.Facebook has not responded to questions from the Bendigo Advertiser.
