THE family of an intellectually disabled woman who went missing days before she was due to give birth has made a heartfelt plea for information.Pyramid Hill woman Krystal Fraser, 24, was last seen leaving a house in Albert Street, Pyramid Hill, about 9.30pm on June 20, 2009.Today marks the second anniversary of her disappearance.“We need someone who genuinely knows what happened to come forward,’’ Krystal’s mother Karen Fraser said.“We would really appreciate it, because at least then we could get some closure.’’Last year Victoria Police said it was considering a $100,000 reward for anyone with informaRtion that helped find Krystal. That reward has not been formally offered, but the Bendigo Advertiser believes it will be in the near future.“Somebody has to know something – people just don’t disappear,’’ Mrs Fraser said.“We don’t want anybody to come forward if their information isn’t true. “But if they’ve got some genuine information then yes, by all means, come forward because that’s been our problem all along: nobody wants to talk.’’Before her disappearance, Krystal spent the afternoon in Bendigo where she visited the maternity accommodation section at Bendigo Health. She was due to give birth to her first child, a son the family say she wanted to call Ryan, three days later. He was to be the family’s first grandchild.“If she had been hit by a car, at least we could have buried her and said goodbye, but this way we’ve got nothing,’’ her mother said.A month after Krystal disappeared the homicide squad was called in to investigate. The following October detectives and as many as 40 volunteers searched a property about 10 kilometres east of Pyramid Hill after receiving two tip-offs about the location of Krystal’s body. The search was unsuccessful.Lead investigator, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Wayne Woltsche said police had spoken to a number of suspects and were still following a number of leads.“We’ve followed up a number of lines of enquiry and we’ve spoken to a number of persons of interest and those people remain persons of interest,’’ he said.Compounding issues for police were Krystal’s pregnancy and intellectual impairment.“Krystal was to be induced on the Tuesday, three days after she went missing,’’ Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Woltsche said.“Certainly that is a fairly significant issue and it’s extremely concerning that she would go missing three days prior to having a child.“I suppose it reinforces our view that she’s met with foul play.’’Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Woltsche said the case would not be closed until either Krystal or her killer is found and brought to justice.“I can only hope that she’ll be found, but the further that time goes on the less optimistic we are,’’ he said.“A missing person investigation like this is never closed until it’s resolved. “It remains open and we are actively following information reports as they come in.“There are a number of enquiries that we still need to do in that area – the Pyramid Hill, Leitchville, Gunbower area – and they’re ongoing.’’Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Woltsche said detectives were still in regular contact with Krystal’s family, who were hopeful more information would come to light and lead to the recovery of her body.“They have no closure,’’ he said.“They hear rumours and whispers and so fourth around the local community, which obviously causes them immense grief. “They are people that are not making a big hullabaloo about it. They are people that keep to themselves and just hope one day someone will come forward who will be able to give them the closure they need. “That’s what they’re hoping for.’’Krystal was last seen wearing an orange top, black tracksuit pants and a camouflage-patterned baseball cap.Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au
