A “QUIRKY” range of shows are on the calendar at The Capital theatre with the launch of The Engine Room Presents program guide yesterday.
From the comedy of Damian Callinan to a one-man-show based on real events during World War II, theatre communications manager Emma Devlin said the performances in the black box theatre in the Old Fire Station would offer “something a little different”.
The season opens with I am my own wife which tells the story of a transvestite who escapes the Nazis while also harbouring Jews.
“Robert Jarman plays 40 different characters in the one show,” Ms Devlin said.
“It’s going to be very good.”
She said the return of Damian Callinan, who performed at the theatre last year, was also going to be a highlight.
“It’s a different market to what the main Capital theatre season is,” she said.
“It’s a different sort of quirky type theatre.”
The theatre style will be replicated in Heathcote, Pyramid Hill and Elmore while this year’s season will also travel to Castlemaine via the Phee Broadway Theatre.
