A KANGAROO Flat man has been killed after his car hit a kangaroo as he drove to work early yesterday morning
The 25-year-old was heading east along Huntly-Fosterville Road in Huntly when he hit the kangaroo.
Police said the man then lost control of his car and hit a tree.
It is believed he died on impact.
Sergeant Craig Gaffee said the 25-year-old had recently moved to Kangaroo Flat from Melbourne to work at the Fosterville mines.
He said the man’s boss discovered the accident on his way to work about 5.30am and alerted police.
Officers from Bendigo, Goornong and Bendigo’s Traffic Management Unit, as well as CFA and Ambulance members, attended.
Sergeant Gaffee said roads around the accident were closed for about three hours.
He said speed did not appear to be a factor and that police would continue their investigations.
The man’s death brings this year’s road toll to 245, 10 less than last year. The death is the second in as many weeks on Greater Bendigo roads.
A 78-year-old Golden Square man was killed late last month when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing High Street in Golden Square.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner in relation to the Kangaroo Flat man’s death.
