Dragon volunteers sought

The Bendigo Easter Festival needs help.

About 1000 people are needed to help with the city’s annual event.

The Bendigo Chinese Association is ready to take names of those who wish to contribute to the Chinese section of the torchlight and gala parade.

Eight Chinese dragons, including Yar Loong the night dragon, will weave through the streets of Bendigo and performing artists from Melbourne, Cairns, Darwin and Canberra will feature in the festival.

Co-ordinators Doug Lougoon and Eugene Law have asked the public to sign up and help make the festival the biggest, brightest and best yet.

Mr Lougoon said the new Dai Gum San precinct allowed for more people to be involved.

Males, in particular, are needed to be dragon legs and carry banners.

“We are starting preparations a week earlier than usual because of the school holidays,’’ he said.

Costume fittings will start at the Golden Dragon Museum today, and run until Good Friday, from 10am to 4pm on weekends and 9.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
