THE Honorary Consul to Monaco, Andrew Cannon, was in Bendigo yesterday to put the finishing touches to next month’s royal visit.New royal Princess Charlene of Monaco will visit Bendigo to officially open Grace Kelly: Style Icon at the Bendigo Art Gallery. Mr Cannon was the major mover and shaker in bringing the international exhibition to Bendigo, but his main concern is looking after Princess Charlene during her trip to Australia.“As far as the exhibition goes, I have no input on the dresses or anything,” he said.“My job was to find the venues that could host the exhibition and then go back and forward and make it all happen.“If you host an exhibition like this there’s a whole heap of criteria that you have to be able to prove that you can pass.“Because the Bendigo Art Gallery has had The White Wedding Dress and The Golden Age of Couture exhibitions it had a very good relationship with the V&A in England.“But my job is to look after the Monaco aspect of it all, which is the princess.”Mr Cannon estimates the exhibition will generate about $15 million for Bendigo.“This is going to be really big,” Mr Cannon said. “We don’t hear enough positive stories these days but this is just a total feel-good, happy story.“To bring it here is just fantastic.”
