CATHOLIC College Bendigo students have taken out the voice choir division of the state championships for the second year in a row.
In recent competition at Warrnambool, CCB students competed against 15 other Sister of Mercy colleges across the state.
The voice choir is made up of 15 Year 9 and 10 students, who recite poetry in unison or as part of a smaller group.
Principal Darren McGregor said the school was really proud of the students.
‘‘It’s such a high standard and they’ve put a lot of time and work into it,’’ he said.
‘‘They are very disciplined, both individually and as a group, and they were able to engage the audience with their performance.’’ Mr McGregor said the students, who are based at two different sites (La Valla, Junortoun) and Coolock, Bendigo) trained together for six weeks.
Year 9 voice choir member Madeleine Marchingo said she was pleased with the group’s success and her involvement.
‘‘It’s such a great honour to represent the school,’’ she said. Public speaking and debating were also part of the championships, with CCB student Madeleine Lloyd making the finals.
The voice choir members were Leah Keating, Rebekah Skahill, Madeleine Marchingo, Georgey Henshall, Caitlyn Bowe, Tobias Kemp, Molly Watts, Ben Rolinson, Jordan Arthur, Hugh McConville, Thomas Freeth, Jacob Tingley, Caitlin McGregor, Leah Corrie and Francesca Dowler. The teachers were Ian McArthur and Lisa Florence.
